Anna Hartley
Writer, IDEO

A senior storyteller from IDEO, Anna Hartley brings an expertise in writing and communication strategy, with a passion for stories that can effect change through beautiful, evocative expression.
While at IDEO, Anna has designed various forms of storytelling–from branding to copywriting to filmmaking to communications strategy. She looks forward to focusing on telling empathic stories about the people, opportunities, contexts and constraints that are central to our work as designers at IDEO.org.
Anna has worked with various private and public sector projects, most notably with the City of San Francisco helping to create a strategy, brand, and film series for SF72, a new approach to disaster preparedness. This taste of impactful work inspired Anna to bring similar techniques to the social sector.
Prior to IDEO, Anna worked as a copywriter at a Philadelphia-based branding agency. Her work has been featured in One Show, HOW International Design Awards, Communication Arts, Type Director’s Club Annual, Entertainment Weekly, Publisher’s Weekly, and NPR. Anna graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Comparative Literature and French, while also writing and performing sketch comedy. She graduated magna cum laude as a Ben Franklin scholar, and has taken coursework at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop.
Outside of work, Anna loves running marathons, exploring new creative outlets, writing fiction and deepening her store of travel adventures. She has visited 50 countries...and counting!
