The first iteration of the IDEO.org TEDx in a Box prototype is complete and ready for action at TEDx events around the world. Check it out!
Read the TEDx in a Box final prototype presentation prepared by the IDEO.org" target="_blank">IDEO.org" target="_blank">IDEO.org" target="_blank">IDEO.org" target="_blank">IDEO.org team.
The TEDx in a Box prototype shown in the movie will be piloted at three TEDx events around the world, with a prototype heading to South America, Africa, and India later this year. After getting feedback from the field, the IDEO.org team will reconvene and do another phase of design and prototyping based on what worked and what didn't work in the field.
In the movie, IDEO.org Fellow Marika Shioiri-Clark shows off the contents and design of our first TEDx in a Box prototype, with everything housed in an inconspicuous and very friendly green suitcase. All contents in the kit are color-coded and labeled with symbology corresponding to the simple visual instructions in the quickstart guide that the team designed. Along with the quickstart guide, the TEDx in a Box shown in the video contains an overhead projector, a PA system, DVD player, battery, inverter, two camcorders, power strip, an SD card, and a tripod.
Because the TEDx in Box will be used in many areas with limited access to electricity, the electronics in the kit can be operated by AC or DC power (for example, using power supplied by an automobile). The TEDx in a Box prototype also contains a powerful battery so that the kit (and the TEDx events it helps to power) can be taken completely off the electrical grid!
To learn more about TEDx and the TEDx in a Box project, check out the TEDx blog or read the final prototype presentation prepared by the IDEO.org team.
Enjoy the movie (directed and edited by Robin Bigio, another IDEO.org Fellow and member of the TEDx team) and check back soon for updates on the TEDx in a Box from the field.
