Clean Team, the sanitation offering in Ghana that IDEO.org designed last year for Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), is looking to scale to 10,000 toilets in 2014 and hiring accordingly. The social enterprise, in partnership with Unilever, recently announced it is beefing up its staff in anticipation of private investment.

IDEO.org is also proud to announce that Clean Team won the Silver and Bronze IDSA Social Impact Design Award last month in recognition of the product, service and business design it showcases.

"Jury comments: Product and service rolled in: retrofitted, low cost, scaleable. Gives dignity to people. Public toilets to private toilets at price points that the villagers can afford."

"In any business that experiences strong growth, a keen eye has to remain focused on cash collections and not just on top line growth, hence I look at the relationship between these 2 figures on a monthly basis. To date defaults have been minimal, in the region of 1% of the billings for the rentals of the toilets."
